| Switzerland Appoints Head Of Tax Harmonization Committee |
by Ulrika Lomas, Tax-News.com, Brussels
Wednesday, February 01, 2012
The Swiss Federal Council has recently appointed Eva Herzog to the position
of president of the commission responsible for the harmonization of direct taxes
levied by the Confederation, the Swiss cantons and communes (CHID), for the
administrative period 2012-2015.
According to the Swiss Federal Department of Finance (FDF), Herzog, state
councillor and finance director of the Swiss canton Basel-Stadt, assumes office
with retroactive effect from January 1, 2012, taking over from Martin Schmid.
The FDF also announces in its release that Marcel Schwerzmann, state councillor
and finance director of the Swiss canton Lucerne, has been elected by the Federal
Council as a new member of the commission, which comprises six representatives
of the Swiss cantons, three representatives of the federal administration and
three professors of law.
Concluding its release, the FDF explains that the federal laws of December
14, 1990, pertaining to the harmonization of the direct taxation of the cantons
and the municipalities and to federal direct tax, are designed
to harmonize the direct taxes between the cantons and between the Confederation
and the cantons.
The aim of the commission is to guarantee collaboration between the Confederation
and the cantons as well as to advise the FDF in terms of adapting and interpreting
the legal bases.
