| Gibraltar Hikes Import Duties |

The Gibraltar government has announced hikes to import duties on cigarettes, fuel and alcohol, effective since April 28, 2010.
The changes to import duties has had the following effect:
- The duty on a packet of 200 cigarettes has been increased by GBP0.70;
- The ad valorem duty previously imposed on rolling tobacco has been abolished, and the new duty will have the effect of increasing tax by GBP0.51 per 50 gram packet;
- The duty on fuel has increased by GBP0.04 per litre on petrol, and by GBP0.08 on diesel; and
- The ad valorem duties on wines, spirits and beers have also been abolished. The new set fee will have the effect of increasing the duty on spirits by GBP0.30 per litre, while the duty on wines will remain the same. Import duties on malt (beers) will increase by GBP0.05 per bottle or can, and GBP0.04 on casks.
